‘Tis the Season of Giving

I don’t know about you, but I love this time of the year for the generous spirit it elicits. Many families are inspired by the spirit of this season to look beyond their every day life to help those who are needing some extra assistance. Whether it’s volunteering their time with charities or shelters, donating items to those less fortunate or if it’s making and serving food at homeless shelters, there is a lot of good happening around us!

But when it comes to our children and the topic of ‘generosity’, we are learning at Wonderful Me, that they are confused. They are uncertain how to be generous when they don’t have the money or the ability to buy things or volunteer their time without parental assistance. So many kids say to us “I believe I’m generous, but I don’t have that much to give!”.

Our children are born generous. It is a trait that comes from their open heart; their ability to love easily and to see the goodness of others. We can inspire them to use this and to be generous in more ways than just by giving money or material things.

Generosity is not a behaviour, it is a deep human quality which we can embrace as a part of our identity. Having a generous nature and enhancing this in our lives will help us live with more meaning and fulfilment. We can act through our generous nature and connect with others in this wholesome way. Listed below are a few suggestions on how we can all practise connecting through generosity with one another, especially through this holiday season.
