Be careful what you wish for...

Paulo Coelho inspires his reader through his famous book, The Alchemist by saying:

“When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it”.

My mum used to say this in her own words often:

“Be careful what you wish for, because it might come true!”.

Hers was more a warning rather than inspiration!

However, both these quotes are telling us one universal truth, and that is the power of intention.

We aren’t always very aware of our intentions, but if you pay attention to the words we say often and the inner dialogue running on repeat in our mind, you will understand your true intentions. Listen. What are they saying?

“I am bored. I am tired. Nobody understands me. I am lonely. I want to be loved. I want to fit in. I want to learn.”

These are the deep intentions your universe then conspires to give you. So if you are experiencing things you don’t really enjoy, pay attention to your deep intentions and discover what it’s truly communicating.

When we hear our deep intentions we have the power to change them to that which will serve us well. When you have a deep intention of 'boredom’, your whole world will give it to you. Your work, your friends, your environment…they will all be boring! But if you change your intention to ‘learn’, you will find much to be inspired by in your daily actions and interactions. You won’t believe the things you begin to notice!

Creating deep intentions is an art that doesn’t take a lot of time to learn, especially if you’re young! We can help our children start early by inspiring them to set an intention for their day. Here’s an example of a simple morning routine you can handover to your little one to make it their own. You can check in with them when you tuck them in at night to see if they noticed the world conspiring with them to help them achieve it!
